Tomato
Back in the 1500's tomatos were considered as poisonous the reason for this is because those with money had plates made of pewter which food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning. This happened mostly with tomatos and therefore it was the vegetable that was thought of being the poison. The tomato comes from the Solanaceae family which is native to America and Mexico.
Today there are many varieties of tomatoes which include cherry tomatos, Italien tomatoes, Spanish tomatoes and plum tomatoes, where they are cultivated all over the world. Very popular in Greek and Spanish dishes, used in many salads, soups, stews and used to make tomato sauce. Tomatoes have been can be eatern raw, cooked, fried, stewed chopped and tinned. Its used in the the drink "Bloody Mary" alongside with vodka and worcestershire sauce and other ingrediants.
Tomatoes need full sunlight to grow and can grow easily in the garden up a fence or better still in a green house. They need to be regularly. Like most vegetables tomatoes can not tolerate the frost so make sure before sowing any tomato seeds that the soil is over 10C. They usually take about 7-9 weeks after sowing the seeds and will grow better in warmer conditions.
