Poppy
The poppy species comes in many colours which include yellow, blue, red, orange and white but the most familiar colour to us is the red poppy. They tend to usually to grow in fields but can be found to be growing wild along roadsides and clifftops. The poppy is a symbol of wartime rememberance and is used widely on tombstones and around war graves. The flower was commonly found growing on the battlefields during WW1 and the grounds were red from the blood of the brave soldiers that fought and petals of the poppy. The poppies are a symbol of sleep and death.
The six petal flower is popular also for its seeds that are used in foods and on top of cakes and bread.
