Native to the Eastern Mediterranean, the hyacinths are a popular garden plant here in the Uk can come in many different colours. The Plant got its name from Greek mythology, the famous God Apollo named the plant after Hyakinthos, his beloved. Apollo tried to impress Hyakinthos in a game of discus when Apollo threw the discus harder than he'd ever thrown it before and it hit Hyakinthos, who died of his wounds. Another version of the story involves the God of the west wing, Zephyrus, who was also in love with the handsome Hyakinthos. This caused jealousy between the both Gods Apollo and Zephyrus, but Hyakinthos preffered Apollo and when Apollo threw the discus, Zephyrus blew it off course and it hit Hyakinthos killing him.
