Gardeners Diary 2009

January

There are many things that need to be done in the garden during January just as any other month. Here we have put together a list that may help you organise what needs to be done.

Christmas Tree

-Recycling Christmas Trees

Recycling your christmas tree is a more enviromentally friendly and a convenient way of getting rid of everything. Some authorities are composting trees to produce mulch/soil improver. Artificial trees are always a good alternative because they can be used every year.

- Plan Your Vegetable Garden

You can start by planning your vegetable garden rotating your crops every year which will not only help on the soil structure but also the soil fertility. This will help with the control of weeds which as time goes on they spread and become harder to remove.Pest Control will also be prevented because you will be breaking up the life cycles of the crops that attract pests.

Irrigation

-Irrigation Systems and Water Pipes

Make sure that all your pipes and irrigation systems are drained well during the cold winter months incase of freezing.
