Digitalis purpurea otherwise known as the foxglove. Other names for the foxglove include dead men's bells and fairy thimbles.
The plant is a popular tall summer flower which comes in many different colours. The foxglove is a biennial plant, meaning that the plant has a two year life cycle. The life cycle will start once you have planted the seed, it will flower for a period and then the plant will lay dormant over the cold months, before it will finally flower and produce it's fruits before it ends the cycle and dies.
When growing foxgloves they need to be planted in rich, fertile soil, not necessary in full sunlight. Probably best in a light shady area where they get the best of both worlds. These plants are extremly poisonous if eatern.
As the foxglove tends be a very tall plant it's probably best if seeds are sown at the back of behind smaller flowers. |
