Dahlia
There are 36 different species of the Dahlia and many cultivaters. The Dahlia is native to Mexico and in the 1600 was known under the name acoctli, it disappeared of the records and came over to Europe around 1780 where it was re-discovered at the European headquaters . The Dahlia was kept a secret at there for ten more years.
The plant is very popular now across europe and is known for it's beautiful forms of the flower which look like little globes that give the idea of a pompom. Other forms of the dahlia are the spidery flowers that look like sea anemones. They come in many bold and striking colours and bloom all through the summer till frost in the winter.
They range 1-6 ft in height usually 3 1/2 inches in diameter and like to be planted in full or partial sunlight in rich and moist soil. The dahlia has eight sets of homologous chromosomes where most other plants only have two.
