The Cichorium intybus otherwise known as Common chicory is a plant thats native to Europe. Found commonly growing wild in the country along roads and along hedges and comes in many shades of blues, violets and purples. The leafs of this plant known as Leaf chicory is used and eatern in many salad dishes. The roots are more used for medical purposes in treating jaundice, liver enlargement, gout and rheumatism.
The Cichorium intybus flower blooms between July to October and prefers medium well drained soils that get planty of light for better growth. They tend not to tolerate frost. |
