Beetroot
Beetroot is a popular vegetable to us all that we see mostly in pickled jars and served with salads and is recognised by its deep dark pinkish colour that dyes everything. The rooted plant comes from the Chenopodiaceae species and has been around since roman times and was thought back then for it's mineral boron which aids the human sex hormones.
The plant grows approximately between 1-2 metres tall in height and has heart shaped leaves and small tiny reddish flowers. The plant has been used medically for fevers and constipation through time and today used to treat depression. The beetroot contains trytophan which is also found in chocolate that gives off a relaxing and unwinding feeling.
Growing beetroof could not be easier, firstly the seeds need to be sown from April to July in a deep trench. The seeds need to be sown in rows then leave around 30cm between rows and about 5cm apart, they grow well in partial sunlight and need to be watered regularly.
