The Aubergine Vegetable
Otherwise known as the 'eggplant' which comes from the Solanaceae family. The eggplant is cultivated mainly for its fruit that resembles a goose or hens egg. It is native plant to India and it was once considered along side with the tomato and potato as poisonous as it came from the same family as the deadly nightshade Later on was discovered to be delicious vegetable that is used in many recipes.. To grow aubergines its best if they grow in a warm environment like a green house in well drained soil. The eggplant is a very cold sensitive plant and will not tolerate cold or frost and tempereatures should be 20°C (68°F). The aubergine vegetable is a long and has a thick shiny purple skin and grows between 12- 25 cm long. Used in many recipes across the world which include Indian Cuisines, Greek dishes and used in sauces and spices.
