The Asparagus Vegetable
The asparagus goes right back through history to the Roman and ancient Greek times where the vegetable and plant was used medically to fight kidney, bladder or urine infections and used in many winter recipes. It is a herbal plant that is popular in stews, soups and is used in many sauces and recipes giving a tasteful flavouring to many dishes. The asparagus plant is native to Northern Europe and comes from the species Asparagus genus which grows between 100- 150 cm and grows yellow and white bell shaped flowers.
Asparagus needs to be grown in well drained soil that needs full sunlight to get the best results. Each plant will produce about 25 spears every year.
